Becoming a Chartered Accountant (Zimbabwe) – CA(Z) marks the final step of your professional journey after passing all ICAZ examinations and completing your training contract. Below is a guide to help you apply through the ICAZ member portal:

1. Meet the Pre-requisites

  • Pass all ICAZ professional exams.
  • Complete or be discharged from your training contract (articles).
  • Wait for eligibility communication from ICAZ.

2. Prepare Required Documents

  • Three reference letters from CA(Z) members.
  • Employer reference letter confirming work and CPD compliance.
  • CV (Curriculum Vitae).
  • Copy of National ID or Passport.
  • Proof of payment for:
    • ICAZ Membership
    • PAAB Registration

3. Log In to the ICAZ Portal

Use your ICAZ credentials (from exams/training). If you’ve forgotten your password, use the reset option or contact ICAZ support.

4. Go to “My Account” (Profile) Page

Click on your name or profile icon at the top right corner and select “My Account” or “Profile” from the dropdown menu. This takes you to your member profile page.
If your account opens directly to a profile dashboard, you may already be on the correct page—look for sections like Personal Details, Contact Info, etc.

5. Access the “Apply for CA(Z)” Form

Once logged in, navigate to your profile dashboard. Look for the option “Apply for CA(Z)” – this is usually a tab or link on the left side of your profile page once you are eligible. For example, in the member portal menu, there will be an “Apply for CA(Z)” button/tab. Click this to start your membership application.

6. Complete the Online Application

  • Confirm and update personal details.
  • Upload required documents in their respective fields.
  • Input your Four CA(Z) referees’ names and membership numbers.
  • Select payment option:
    • If paid already, upload proof of payment and select “Pay Later.”
    • Or, pay online if the option is available.
  • Submit the form. You may use the payment date or note like “MEM fee paid” as a reference if asked.

7. Confirmation and Approval

Your application will be reviewed by ICAZ. Once approved, you will be officially admitted as a CA(Z). You’ll be notified of the decision and any final formalities (e.g., collecting certificate, oath ceremony).

Additional Notes

  • Deadline for Waiver: Keep in mind if there are any fee waiver policies. (For instance, ICAZ sometimes offers a registration fee waiver if one applies within a certain period after qualifying. The current policy might be “apply within 3 months of your APC exam result for a waiver”. Check ICAZ communications or ask the office about any such incentive to time your application.)
  • PAAB Registration: Becoming a CA(Z) also involves registering with the Public Accountants and Auditors Board. The fee mentioned is for registering as a Registered Public Accountant (RPAcc) with PAAB. After ICAZ approves your membership, they will guide you on PAAB registration issuance.
  • Follow-Up: If you don’t hear back after a reasonable time, follow up with the Membership Liaison at ICAZ (e.g., the Registry Department) to check on your application status. They can confirm if any additional info is needed.

If you experience any technical issues or need assistance, don't hesitate to get in touch with registry@icaz.org.zw or email education@icaz.org.zw.
